World Diabetes Foundation observed in Meghalaya by BECC

Shillong, November 14: The Bansara Eye Care Centre (BECC), Society for Promotion of Eye Care and Sight (SPECS), World Diabetes Foundation and Meghalaya Women’s Alliance celebrated the World Diabetes Day by organizing a Global Diabetes Walk on today.

The Walk started from Madan Iewrynghep, Shillong at 7.30 AM, which was successfully taken part by more than 250 participants.  The walk started with a short introduction on the global commemoration of the day and awareness about the disease and its consequences by the Medical Director of Bansara Eye Care Centre, Dr. J. V. Basaiawmoit. The walk was flagged off by Shri. Antonio War, (MDC).

The walk includedparticipants from the Nurses of Dr. H. Gordon Robert Hospital, Woodland Hospital, Ganesh Das Hospital, Rapsbun School of Nursing, Civil Hospitaland also students from English &Foreign Language University, St. Edmunds College, Martin Luther Christian University, BIOS, Meghalaya Women’s Alliance and Jingiaseng Kynthei Balang Presbyterian Nongkseh.

The walk culminated at Madan Iewrynghep, where St. Edmunds College students perform a Short Skit about Diabetes and its complications leading to blindness. Ka Phawar Khasi – a satirical couplets containing messages or life’s lesson/observation on danger of diabetes accompanied by whooping in Khasi “Hoi Kiw” was performed by nurses and students of Civil Hospital Shillong. Certificates were distributed to all the participants who participated in the Walk.

Alongside the awareness events and campaigns, our team also collaborated for screening of patients detected with Diabetes at Civil Hospital Shillong. This was done in Collaboration with the NCDS during their Diabetes Screening Camp.
