Shillong, June 01: NEHUNSA has written to the Secretary, MoE appreciating and welcomes the much-awaited advertisement for the post of Vice Chancellor in NEHU, though anticipation for the advertisement was expected much earlier as communicated to the Ministry from time to time taking into account the ongoing crisis surrounding the University due to the incompetence shown by Professor P. S. Shukla.
Much more after he voluntarily chose to abandon the University headquarters in Shillong, at the same time trying his level best to interfere remotely from a distant location in the academic and administrative sector.
As a mature association, NEHUNSA has expressed its full faith in the Ministry of Education that, from this time forward, a Vice Chancellor shall be appointed who is well qualified both in the academic and administrative background in a highly transparent manner, as used to be at the Association looks forward to the completion of the apointment process at the earliest (preferably before August, 2026), to avoid any leadership vacuum.
NEHUNSA also added that it would be delighted that the Acts and Statutes of the University are honoured in a manner that, on the expiry of the tenure of Professor P. S. Shukla as the Vice Chancellor, the senior-most Professor shall take charge as the acting Vice Chancellor of NEHU.
Any attempt to extend the term of Professor P. S. Shukla shall prove to be detrimental to the overall health of this University. They are also hopeful that the letter sent is received in good spirit and the office of MoE understands the importance of the situation.
Copy of the letter have been forwarded to the Visitor, Chief Rector, Union Minister of Education, Chief Minister of Meghalaya and the Federation of Central Universities Staff (FOCUS), in the press statement issued today sign by Millford Thangkhiew President and Dr. Danny M Synnah General Secretary.
