Shillong, Dec 06: The Meghalaya Health & Family Welfare Minister, Shri. A.L. Hek, today visited and inspected the proposed site for Tura Medical College at Balalgre/Jewilgre located some 17 kilometers away from Tura. He was accompanied by Parliamentary Secretary for Health & Family welfare, Shri. Sengnam Marak, Superintendent of Tura Civil Hospital, Additional DM& HO, Tura, Executive Engineer and SDO of Engineering Wing of Health & Family Welfare department. Two members of the Nodal Agency and consultant firm from New Delhi namely M/s. Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL) were also present during the visit.
The state government has entrusted the responsibilities of preparing a Detail Project Report (DPR) for construction of Tura Medical College cum Hospital to M/s. Telecommunications Consultants India Ltd, New Delhi. The firm shall work out the modalities for infrastructural and other related developmental works like Green Concepts and structures representing the style of Meghalaya, besides carrying out a detail survey of the proposed site. The Detail Project Report (DPR) is like to be completed in four months time, the sources informed.
It may be recalled that the foundation stone for construction of the proposed Tura Medical College cum Hospital at Balagre and Jewilgre area 17 kms away from Tura on the way to Ampati under newly created district of South West Garo Hills District, was laid by the Chief Minister, Dr. Mukul Sangma on the 12th December last year. The proposed medical college cum hospital to be constructed on the 99 acres of land will have the capacity for admitting 500 patients at time besides accommodating 100 students.
The health Minister while taking stock of the ground situation for the proper demarcation of earmarked land, asserted that by the beginning of 2014, the state government is definitely going take up the project and will not rest until the same is taken to its logical end. He also expressed the hope that when completed the project will help produce sufficient numbers of medical and para-medic staff besides catering to much needed health care facilities for the general public of the state particularly to the people of Garo Hills. While seeking people’s cooperation for creating a conducive atmosphere in the state so that the government completes all its projects in time, Shri. Hek expressed his optimism that it will directly or indirectly create huge employment opportunities for the people particularly the educated unemployed local youths.(SP News)
