Shillong, Jan 12: In the interest of maintaining smooth traffic flow, road discipline and ensuring public safety, the general public are hereby informed of the following instructions which are to be strictly complied with
No Parking Zones, Parking of vehicles is strictly prohibited along designated No-Parking stretches and busy corridors. Vehicles found violating no-parking regulations shall be liable for penal action under Section 177 / 179(1) MV Act (penalty of 500 and 1,500 for subsequent offences / 2,000) including towing.
Parking of Local Taxis and Tourist Taxis, all local taxis and tourist taxis are directed to park only at designated taxi stands or authorized parking areas. Roadside parking, parking in no-parking zones, or at unauthorized locations shall invite strict action under Section 177 / 179(1) MV Act (penalty of S00 and 1,500 for subsequent offences / 2,000).
Overtaking and Lane Discipline, Rash and unsafe overtaking, especially in congested areas, curves, junctions, and narrow roads is strictly prohibited. Drivers are advised to follow lane discipline and traffic signals at all times.
Two-Wheeler Lane Discipline and Safe Riding. Riders of two-wheelers are instructed to maintain proper lane discipline, avoid zig-zag riding. over speeding, and any form of or reckless driving.
Protective headgear (helmets) must be worn as mandated by law Violators will be booked under 179(1) / 184 ()/194 D MV Act. (penalty of 2,000 toR5,000 and 10,000 for subsequent offences / 1,000)
Uncovered Hay Stack, Load-Carrying Vehicles, Movement of vehicles carrying hay, straw, or similar materials without proper covering is strictly prohibited within city limits. Said the Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills District in the press statement.
