The DC of WGH issues prohibitor order ahead of GHADC filling nomination

Tura, March 08:The District Magistrate, West Garo Hills, Shri Vibhor Aggarwal, IAS, has issued an order under Section 163, BNSS 2023, imposing prohibitory restrictions across the district to ensure the smooth and peaceful filing of nomination papers for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) General Election 2026.

According to the order issued on March 8, the restrictions will remain in force from 5:00 a.m. on March 9 until the nomination process concludes. Nomination papers for the elections are scheduled to be filed and scrutinized between March 9 and March 16 at the offices of the Returning Officers and Assistant Returning Officers located within the Deputy Commissioner’s office premises in Tura.

The order prohibits obstruction of vehicle movement, carrying or concealing of weapons such as lathis, sticks, stones, firearms or other lethal objects, obstruction of the lawful functioning of shops and establishments, and unlawful assembly of five or more persons intended to cause disruption.

The District Magistrate stated that the measures are necessary to prevent any breach of peace, intimidation, or disruption of public life during the nomination period and to ensure the peaceful conduct of the elections.

The restrictions will apply throughout West Garo Hills district but will not apply to armed forces, paramilitary personnel, and law enforcement agencies on official duty. The order has been issued with immediate effect due to the emergent nature of the situation.
