Shillong, April 29: The State Boxing Championship 2025-26 will witness the best of the best tomorrow on the fourth and final day of the event at Mawlai Mawroh here.
Today’s semifinal action saw young pugilists slug it out in the ring on another exciting day of boxing action.
The four-day event is organised by the Meghalaya Boxing Association (MBA) with support from the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs. The championship is for boys and girls in junior (15-16 years) and youth (17-18) categories, further subdivided by weight.
In the junior girls’ category 42-44kg division, Isawanbiang Nongsiej (West Khasi Hills) defeated Elizabeth Ngamlai (West Jaintia Hills) and Soyabanri Nongrang (Eastern West Khasi Hills) got the better of Elishiba Marwein (Ri-Bhoi) in a split decision.
In the 44-46kg division, Anisha Kharbani (EWKH) outperformed Pdianghun Kurbah (East Khasi Hills) and later Baiamonlang Lyngdoh and Nebadari Rympei (both of Ri-Bhoi) were involved in an absolute slug fest, with Rympei winning the bout.
In the 46-48kg division, Evangeline Sohbar (RB) and Aishisha M Mawroh (Noble Art Boxing Club) were victorious against Teresa Lamneikern (Rising Star Boxing Association) and Dafeen L Mawlong (EWKH) respectively.
The semifinals of the junior boys’ bouts saw Arush Biswa (NABC) and Shaniaki Shabong (EKH) winning in the 42-44kg division, Pyndapkupar Marwein (EWKH) and Damonlang Marbaniang (Green Heart Boxing Club) in the 44-46kg and Freedy Marngar (EKH) and Karan Sunar (RB) in the 46-48kg.
In the 50-52kg division, Ryan Lyngdoh (GHBC) and Iaimanbha J Nongrum (EKH) were victorious, along with Arkimanbha Rimen (EKH) and Lewanki Pakma (WJH) in the 52-54kg division. In the 54-57kg division Alyn M Marak (West Garo Hills) won against Baskar Gill (RSBA) while Chepyrkhat H Mitri (GHBC) beat Moses Singh (RSBA) in the 57-60kg division.
The finals of the various categories and weight divisions will be unmissable as the future stars of Meghalaya boxing fight it out one last time with their eyes on the title.
The MLA for Mawlai, Shri Brightstarwell Marbaniang, has consented to be the chief guest at the closing ceremony that will bring the curtains down on four glorious days of boxing.
