Shillong, May 05: The Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills District asekd all employers, contractors, and migrant workers are hereby informed that under the Meghalaya Identification and Registration (Safety and Security) Act 2020, registration of all migrant workers is mandatory in the State.
This measure is intended to ensure safety, maintain public order, and protect the rights of both workers and residents. A migrant worker refers to any person not belonging to or domiciled in Meghalaya who is employed in any establishment.
All such workers must register and obtain a valid registration card. Employers are responsible for ensuring registration through the online portal www.investmeghalaya.gov.in by submitting required documents such as Aadhaar, EPIC, PAN card along with a photograph.
Alternatively, registration may also be done online at the office of the Labour Department and Office of the Deputy Labour Commissioner, East Garo Hills.
Failure to comply may attract penalties. Employers who do not register workers may be fined between Rs. 5000 and 1,00,000, and repeated violations may lead to imprisonment.
Unregistered workers may also be fined. Any harassment or discrimination against migrant workers is punkshalbe under law. All concerned are requested to comply for safety and legality.
