Maligoan, August 03: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) continued its commitment towards passenger safety, crime prevention and humanitarian service by successfully conducting 16 significant operations across its jurisdiction on 28th and 29th July, 2026.
The operations included passenger assistance, crime detection, anti-touting drives, recovery of contraband and stolen property, rescue of vulnerable persons and protection of railway property, reflecting the continued vigilance and dedication of RPF personnel.
Displaying exemplary promptness, RPF personnel saved the life of an elderly woman passenger travelling by Train No. 15701 at Purnea Railway Station and ensured her timely hospitalization. In another incident, they provided immediate medical assistance to an ailing passenger travelling by Train No. 15743 at Gangarampur Railway Station and facilitated his admission to a nearby hospital.
Continuing its sustained drive against illegal transportation of prohibited substances, RPF recovered 200 bottles of Eskuf cough syrup valued at approximately Rs. 44 thousand from an unclaimed consignment at Rangiya Railway Station.
In three separate operations conducted at Barsoi, New Jalpaiguri and Kishanganj Railway Stations, RPF also recovered 119 bottles of illicit liquor valued at approximately Rs. 28 thousand. The recovered items were handed over to the concerned Excise and Police authorities for further legal action.
In its continued efforts against railway-related offences, RPF personnel apprehended six offenders, including five persons involved in theft-related offences and one railway ticket tout.
During these operations, five stolen mobile phones valued at approximately Rs. 72 thousand and one future Tatkal railway ticket along with two past journey tickets valued at approximately Rs. 5 thousand were recovered. The accused persons and recovered property were handed over to the concerned law enforcement agencies for further action.
Demonstrating its continued commitment towards humanitarian service and child protection, RPF personnel rescued 11 vulnerable persons, comprising 10 minors (07 boys and 03 girls) and one destitute adult woman, from Tangla, Barpeta Road, Guwahati, Kishanganj and New Jalpaiguri Railway Stations.
The rescued minors were safely handed over to their parents or the concerned Child Welfare Committees and Child Care Institutions for care and protection. The destitute adult woman rescued at New Jalpaiguri Railway Station was successfully reunited with her elder brother.
In a coordinated effort, RPF personnel of Katihar (West) along with the Engineering Department (SSE/Works) conducted an anti-encroachment drive at Katihar Railway Station and removed unauthorized structures erected on railway land adjacent to the boundary wall of the 109-acre Koshi Green Golf Club, thereby safeguarding railway property.
During the two-day period, RPF personnel successfully carried out 15 operations, saving one passenger’s life, providing medical assistance to another, apprehending six offenders, rescuing 11 vulnerable persons, conducting one anti-encroachment drive and recovering 200 bottles of cough syrup, 119 bottles of illicit liquor, five stolen mobile phones and railway tickets with the total value of recoveries amounting to approximately Rs. 1.50 lakh.
These operations reflect the dedication, vigilance and professionalism of the Railway Protection Force in safeguarding passengers, protecting railway property and extending timely assistance.
