Shillong, Sept 18: A two-day capacity-building workshop on the development of quality video content under the PM eVIDYA DTH TV Channels got underway at the Meghalaya Teachers Training Academy (MTTA), DERT Annexe, Malki, Shillong, on Thursday.
Organised by the Educational Technology Cell of the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT), the workshop is the first face-to-face PM eVIDYA workshop conducted in collaboration with the Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), NCERT.
Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Education, Government of Meghalaya, R. Rapthap, IAS, graced the inaugural session as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Rapthap highlighted the critical role of digital technology in democratising education and said that PM eVIDYA serves as an important tool for bridging educational gaps and ensuring equitable access to quality learning resources for students across Meghalaya. He also emphasised the potential of technology to help overcome language barriers in education.
Director, DERT, J.U. Kharpuri, in her address, emphasised the need for high-quality, culturally relevant and curriculum-aligned local e-content. She urged the participating teachers to make effective use of the five State DTH channels allocated to Meghalaya to create engaging digital lessons that resonate with local learners.
Joining the programme virtually, Prof. Amarendra P. Behera, Joint Director, CIET-NCERT, commended Meghalaya’s proactive efforts in implementing digital education initiatives and reiterated CIET-NCERT’s continued technical and pedagogical support to strengthen the State’s long-term capacity in e-content creation. State Nodal Officer Dr David M. Nongrum presented an overview of the five PM eVIDYA DTH TV channels allocated to Meghalaya, namely Channels 123 to 127.
The workshop is being attended by 20 participants, including DIET Nodal Officers and key teachers from various districts of the State. During the two-day training, participants will undergo hands-on technical sessions covering the basics of e-content development, graphics and copyright, script recording, video editing and video quality review.
The programme was attended by Director, DERT, J.U. Kharpuri, MCS, Deputy Director M.C. Blah, and DERT Nodal Officers Dr David M. Nongrum and Hameki Nonghuloo.
The workshop is being led by expert resource persons from CIET-NCERT, New Delhi, including Prof. Abhay Kumar, In-charge, PM eVIDYA, and Academic Consultants Akhilesh Verma and Monika Bhakuni.
