Three people were died and more than 30 others injured bus accident

Shillong, Jan 28: In a tragic accident three people were killed and more than 30 others injured today when a Guwahati-bound night service bus bearing a registration AS-01CC-4009 skidded off the road and plunged in the gorge in Mawblei early Monday morning.

The bus, which was on the way from Assam’s Silchar, went off the road and fell into a gorge at Mawblei, on the outskirts of Shillong at around 4:30 am.

The deceased have been identified as Gopal Barma from Govindapul Nulbari district of Assam, Balram Chaudhuri of Itanagar and Bilhar Uddin Barbhunia from Cachar, Assam.

According to a policeman who went to the spot and shifted the injured to the Shillong Civil hospital, at least ten of those injured were in very critical conditions. All the passengers who were in the bus were immediately shifted to the hospital.

It was also informed that there were forty-one passengers who were in the bus that came from Silchar and heading towards Guwahati.

The driver identified as Loket Sharma from Manipur who was also injured said because of break-failure the driver lost control of the bus which fell  40 meters into the gorge.

Three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel,  who were also travelling by the ill-fated night super bus-, were also seriously hurt. some of the injured passengers have been referred to Shillong Military Hospital and   Woodland Hospital. Most of the passengers’ sustained injuries from the head, chest and leg, a paramedical staff of the hospital. (SP News)
