NGO,s urged the Meghalaya government to give a clear picture on the defence land

Shillong, April 8: Two  prominent NGO’s of the state the Khasi Students Union (KSU) and Federation of the Khasi Jaintia and Garo People urged upon the state Revenue Minister RC Laloo to take up the issue of the transfer of defence land to the state government or to the rightful owners.

Stating hand handing over of the defence land will be for the interest of the people.

In a memornadum submitted to the Revenue Minister, these two organisation said that the transfer of these defence lands will help address traffic congestion to a large extent.

Calling on the government to give a clear picture on the status of the land transfer, the organisation stated,  “It may be recalled that in the year 2000, the defence authorities have decided to transfer certain plots of defence lands to the state government and apart from the plots of defence land, the land near Lukier Road, reportedly held by one J N Bawri was also discussed in the meeting.”

“We urged upon the government to give a clear picture of their status,”

Stating that the organisations have been drawing the attention of the government to the acute traffic congestion in Shillong town for the last many years, they suggested that with the efficient transfer of these defence lands this problem of traffic congestion can be addressed to a large extent.(SP News)
