Shillong, Nov 3: Mawlai SC dominated from start to finish to win 3-0 against Lamlynti FC in the opening match of the SSA Champions Cup 2026 at the SSA Stadium here today.
Damanbhalang Chyne (21’), Ricky Chyne (27’) and Arkibor Makhroh (48’) were the scorers in the Group A fixture. Before kick-off, senior officials of the Shillong Sports Association (SSA), led by Working President Robert Dkhar, greeted the players and match officials.
It was always going to be an uphill challenge for Lamlynti, the Third Division runners-up, against the likes of the SPL champions. And so it proved to be the case as Mawlai never took it easy and controlled the game with aplomb.
The first goal saw Damanbhalang take a shot from the left that curled its way into the back of the net out of reach of Lamlynti goalkeeper Nister Roy Suting, a player on loan from Langsning.
The second goal by Ricky went to Nister’s left as well, though this Mawlai player was more in the middle of the pitch when he took his shot.
Daman energetically volleyed another attempt over the crossbar while Lamlynti only had half chances, though their players tried to make an impact on the seasoned Mawlai side.
Mawlai then added another in the early minutes of the second half when Lovingstar Suting, who had just missed a shot a minute earlier, fed a through ball into the box for Arkibor, who did the rest.
Sitting on a three-goal cushion, Mawlai utilised their full set of five substitutions as they tested out different combinations but ultimately the game finished without any additional goals.
Tomorrow’s fixture will also be in Group A, with First Division runners-up Nongkrem to face Second Division champions Mawpat at 2:30pm.
