Shillong, Nov 10: The Government of Meghalaya has declared the office of the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills, Shillong or Crime Branch Police Station (CBPS), East Khasi Hills as Police Station and that is shall include within its limits the area throughout the Eastern Range of the State of Meghalaya for the purpose of offences to be dealt by Crime Branch Police Station in the State as mentioned below.
These include offences under the Indian Penal Code whereby punishment for each offence is 7 years or above. However, offences relating to crime against women and children, offences under the Economic Offence Wing (EOW), notification and offences investigated by Cyber Crime Wing Police Station shall not be investigated by officers of the Crime Branch Police Station (CBPS).
Further, the CBPS shall also deal with offences under the National Security Act, 1980, offences under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, offences under the Arms Act, 1959, offences under the Explosives Substances Act, 1908, offences under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and any other particular offence or class of offences that may be specified by the State Government.The notification shall come into force with immediate effect till further orders.
