Shillong, July 4: The Khasi Student’s Union met the chairman of the Meghalaya Private University Regulatory Board to discuss on the procedure taken by the Board on the process of inspection of all the private institutions set up in the state.
Talking to reporters here on Thursday after meeting the Charirman of the Board L Roy KSU President Daniel Khyriem informed that the Board is likely to complete the compilation of its findings on all the private universities in the state and the same will be forwarded to the state government very soon.
Besides, it was also mentioned that the chairman informed that process of inspection of all the private institutions set up in the state is going on in full swing.
The committee consisted of five members to ensure quality education and to oversee the functioning of all private universities in the State under the Meghalaya Private Universities (Regulation of Establishment and Maintenance of Standards) Act, 2012.
It may be mentioned that the regulatory board cannot act on any anomalies unearthed in any private institution but it can only act as an inspecting and regulatory body.
Besides, while coming to improvement of education in the state Khyriem said that the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) should be called to conduct the inspections and universities should have records of University Grant Commission (UGC) grants to elevate the standards and authenticity of these universities.
Khyriem also reiterated on the need to make the reports of the findings public for the benefits of the parents and the students as a whole while adding that the union will invite all the NGOs, prominent personalities and educationists to discuss on the current issue to improve education in the state as well as safe the reputation of the state and the career of the students. “The outcome of this discussion will be in the forms of campaigns, seminars and the likes,” he added.
Further, the union has also asked the state government to provide more facilities to the staffs of the board in order to improve the functioning of the board in an effective manner.(SP News)
