Shillong, Sept 19: The Central Schemes were highlighted at the second day of the Public Information Campaign on Bharat Nirman programmes of the Central government at Tynring grounds, E. Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya here today to inform the people about these schemes, organised by the Central Media Units like PIB, DFP, DAVP, AIR & DDK.
At the technical session, Shri Mark Kharkongor, District Coordinator, speaking on Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan scheme, said that the Mission signifies a Clean Village Scheme. The target is to make the villages Open Defecation Free (ODF). The aim of the Mission is improvement of the overall living conditions of the people with proper facilities for sanitation. The components of the Mission stand for toilet facilities, solid liquid waste management. The beneficiaries include households, schools, anganwadi centres, etc.
Shri R. Kharduit, Block Programme Manager, Mawryngkneng Block, said under NRHM, the programmes carried out are the National Blindness Control Programme, Revised National Tuberculosis Control programme, National Leprosy Eradication programme, National Vector Diseases Control programme, National AIDS Control programme, National Iodine Deficiency Disorder Control programme. The main schemes taken up are JSY, JSSK, VHSNC, MHIS etc.
Others who spoke on the occasion were Dr. D.K. Nongbri, DMCHO, E. Khasi Hills on Health & Family Welfare, Smt. J. Syiem, JE, Shillong on Water Resources, while the welcome address was given by Shri N.J. Saikia, M&CO, PIB, Shillong who explained about the objectives of holding the PIC.
As part of the programme, seminars and healthy baby show were held. Exhibition stalls by various government departments showcasing the various development activities taken up, were put up during the campaign.(SP News)
