Shillong, May 28: The Department of Mass Media, St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, is starting an audio-visual public archive called The North East India Archive, within the college premises itself. The archive is an initiative, which will be the first of its kind, within the North-Eastern region and is supported by the Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan.
It is due to be launched in October 2019 and is in the process of being set-up now. The department will also be collaborating with the Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Japan, who will be sharing their expertise and will be aiding in the collection of North-East Indian documentary films.
The idea of the archive stems from the need of a common space, (be it physical or virtual), that houses the rich audio-visual culture that exists within the region and that has been developing over the years. It will contain documentary films, newsreels, photographs, video interviews from the Eastern Himalayan region and the North-East of India.
It will be opento the public, be itresearchers, film-makers, historians, academicians, etc. The North East India Archive can be reached at neindiaarchive@anthonys.ac.in.
