Shillong, Jan 16: The Hynniewtrep Youths’ Council (HYC) strongly condemns the circulation of derogatory, inappropriate, and deeply insensitive content targeting women from the Khasi community through an application known as “Nolo.” Such content is not only misogynistic and demeaning but also constitutes a direct attack on the dignity, identity, and cultural values of the Khasi people.
HYC demands immediate and effective action against the perpetrators responsible for creating, promoting, and circulating this content. We urge the concerned law-enforcement agencies and cyber authorities to take cognisance of the matter without delay, identify those involved, and initiate strict legal action under relevant laws.
Targeting Khasi women in this manner reflects a dangerous mindset that cannot and will not be tolerated. Freedom of expression cannot be used as a shield to justify harassment, humiliation, or the objectification of women, particularly of indigenous communities.
HYC expect the authorities to act decisively and ensure accountability at the earliest. We have already informed the SP, East Khasi Hills District and the DIG, Eastern Range with a request for immediate action and we hope that necessary action is taken at the earliest, said Mr. Roy Kupar SynremPresident HYC in the press statement.
