Shillong, Oct 15: Newly-crowned Shillong Premier League 2026 champions Mawlai will face Nongkseh in the first semifinal of the SSA Super Cup 2026 at the SSA Stadium here on Friday evening. Kick-off will be at 5pm.
Two of the finest teams in Shillong at the moment will go up in what is sure to be a thrilling knockout match with an eye on the final and the ultimate prize.
As SPL champions, Mawlai received direct entry to the semifinals, along with runners-up Shillong Lajong, who will meet Meghalaya Police in the second semifinal on Saturday.
Nongkseh, meanwhile, finished third in their maiden SPL campaign and had to go through the Super Cup playoffs to reach the last-four. They were involved in a fierce contest with Sawmer on Tuesday, where Nongkseh were behind on two occasions before prevailing 4-2.
That was a clear demonstration of the thrill a knockout tournament can bring and there will be more on offer for the fans tomorrow.
When the two teams met in the SPL this year, the game was heading for a well-contested draw until Mawlai’s Damanbhalang Chyne produced a brilliant goal from a free-kick in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time to snatch 3 points for his club, which proved to be key to their lifting the SPL title.
Nongkseh will now get a chance to avenge that loss, while Mawlai will want to cement their place as the hotshots of Shillong – fans will definitely be in for a treat.
