Meghalaya celebrate 71st Independence Day across the State with enthusiastic

Shillong, August 16: At Jowai, West Jaintia Hills District, Deputy Chief Minister, Prof. R.C Laloo unfurled the National flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 31 contingents comprising of the District Police force, Home Guards, NCC students from Thomas Jones Synod College Scouts & Guides and 26 Schools led by Parade Commander DSP Smt. Neena Rabha and 2nd  in Command Shri. Ioanis Khongjoh, Inspector, Home Guard & Civil Defence.

Later Prizes were distributed to the winners of the marching contingent with Little Angels Secondary School declared as winner, Jaintia Secondary School and Q.C Springfield English Secondary school as the first runners -up and second runners-up respectively.

Shri R. Rapthap, Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills District and President of Officer’s Club handed over the Ambulance to Dawki PHC, jointly contributed and purchased by Jowai Officers club and Border Area Development Department.

Smti Molibon Suting, Anganwadi worker was facilitated and awarded with cash prize of Rs.5000 for the selfless 23 years of service towards the welfare of women and children in her village Sohpoh.

Other highlights of the day include Songs and cultural programme performed by the Students from various schools and from the localities of Jowai Town. As part of the celebration Jowai Officers Club, Sein Raij Jowai, JSU  and  JYF  distributed food packets to the jail inmates at Jowai  District Jail, Civil Hospital Ialong, NormanTunnel Hospital and St. Mary’s Mazarrello Orphanage.

At Tura, West Garo Hills, School  Education and Literacy Minister, Smti Deborah C. Marak unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of a 43 strong marching contingent comprising of Meghalaya Police, 2nd MLP Battalion, NCC, Scouts and Guides and school students at the Dikkibandi Stadium, Dakopgre, Tura.

The Chief Guest presented the award to the toppers of SSLC Examination 2017 from Garo Hills region. The 1st prize for March Past   was bagged by Christian Boys Higher Secondary School, 2nd prize by St Xaviers Higher Secondary School and 3rd by Don Bosco College, Tura. Meanwhile, the Best NCC Boys Contingent was bagged by Don Bosco Higher Secondary NCC Boys and Best NCC Girls contingent was bagged by Tura Government College NCC Girls contingent.

The Best Scout Contingent was won by Christian Boys Secondary School troop and Best Guide Contingent was won by Tura Public School Guide Company, while the Best Bulbul pack was bagged by Tura Public School Bulbul Pack and Best Cub Pack was bagged by St. Xavier’s School Cub pack.

Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the Freedom Run held on 14th August, 2017 in different categories. For Open Category (Men), the first prize was bagged by Batsrang A Sangma from Tebronggre,second by Bethnar A Sangma from Tebronggre and third by Niksrang R Marak from Ampati. In open category (women) Marsha T Sangma, Liza B Marak and Lucy Ch Marak won the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. Special awards were also given to Master Binsley B Marak (12 years) and Miss Jesi Ch Marak (10 years).

Other highlights of the day include colourful cultural programme, sports for children and exhibition football match between DC XI, Tura versus Tura Pastors Football Club of Tura.

At Nongpoh, Ri Bhoi District, Dr. D.D. Lapang, local MLA and  Chief Adviser to the Government of Meghalaya unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 26 marching contingents comprising of MLP, school students and Scouts & Guides at NSCA Stadium, Pahamsyiem.

Other highlights of the day include Patriotic songs and dance by student and the open to all marathon in the morning. The day ended with the prize distribution to the winners of different competition

At Resubelpara, North Garo Hills District, Shri Salseng C Marak, Chairman, State Planning Board unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute of the 20 parade contingents comprising of the police, NCC, Black Hawk Squad, Scouts and Guides and students at the Mini Stadium Resubelpara.

The Chief Guest handed over the prizes to the winner of March Past. Resubelpara Girls Higher Secondary School (Girls) bagged the winner’s trophy while Paschal Secondary School and Black Hawk Squad took the second and third place respectively. Games and Sports for children, friendly football march between DC XI and CRPF XI, and colorful cultural presentations concludes the ceremonial programme.

At Ampati, South West Garo Hills, Minister for Home (Police), H.D.R. Lyngdoh unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute before a gathering of over 5000 people and 30 parade contingents consisting of Meghalaya Police, Scouts & Guides and school platoons at Ampati Students’ Field.

Highlights of the days’ celebration include colourful cultural programme by students, youths, women’s groups and nokmas, children’s sports and exhibition football match played by DC’s XI and Ampati Veterans.

The final match of Monsoon Soccer Challenge, 2017, organized by Ampati Youth Welfare Club, was also played in the afternoon. The match was attended by Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr. Mukul Sangma as the Chief Guest. The match was interspersed with a display of football drills and performances by local artistes.

At Williamnagar, East Garo Hills District, Forest and Environment Minister, Shri Clement Marak unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 30 marching contingents led by Shri Chalang Ch. Momin, DSP at Rongrenggre Higher Secondary School playground, Williamnagar.

At Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills District, Smti R. Warjri, Meghalaya Minister for Health and Family Welfare unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 33 Parade contingent comprising of District Police, NCC, Scout & Guide and school Children at St Peter’s playground, Pyndengrei.

Other highlights of the day were cultural programme, kids sport and game, distribution of sweet and food packages to patients of Civil Hospital, S. Wolling Children’s Home, Nongpyndeng, prize distribution to the winner of the parade and the cultural programme, District Awards to Anganwadi Workers and helpers of Nongstoin, Mawshynrut and Mawthadraishan, Distribution of Wheel chair, Auxiliary Crutch, Hearing Aid under ADIP Scheme through State resource center on disabilities affair (Civil Hospital Shillong).

At Mawkyrwat, South West Khasi Hills District, Shri A. T. Mondal, Speaker of Meghalaya State Legislative Assembly unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya salute of the 18 parade contingents comprising of police, NCC, scouts and guides, school students and Brass Band (Home Guards) at Maharam Government Higher Secondary School playground.

Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the March Past in which  Nativity Higher Secondary School   emerged as the winner followed by  Nelson Memorial Secondary School as Runners Up and  Maharam Government Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrwat bagged the third Prize.

The Chief Guest also handed over the cash Awards to Smti Synthia Lyngkhoi (Aganwadi worker) who was awarded the State Level Incentive Award 2016-17 and Smti TildaThongni (Aganwadi helper) the District Level Incentive Award 2017-18 while Shri R Lyngdoh, MLA handed over the cash prize award to  Smti M Shangpliang (Aganwadi helper) and Smti Siantinora Mawlein (Aganwadi worker) the District Level Incentive Award 2016-17

Prizes were also distributed to the winners in the Cultural Programmes and Independence 2017 Open to all Marathon

The other highlight of the day were distribution of sweets to children, distribution of food items to patients in CHC, Mawkyrwat and Orphans of Hope Orphanage, Mawkyrwat, Cultural Programmes and Sports & Games for children.

At Khliehriat, East Jaintia Hills District, Shri. R. V. Lyngdoh, Minister of Urban Affairs unfurled the National flag and also took the Rashtriya Salute of 22 Parade contingents comprising of Meghalaya Police and school students at Khliehriat Secondary School.

The Chief Guest handed over the prizes to the winner of March Past. Little Flower Secondary School, Lad Rymbai was awarded as the best parade contingent while the Little Star Secondary School, Khliehriat bagged the Second Runners Up Award.

Other highlights of the day include cultural programmes presented by different schools of the district where the Sacred Heart Secondary School, Byndihati bagged the First prize and the Holy Family Secondary School, Khliehriat bagged the Second prize.

On the same occasion, the State Level Anganwadi Award 2016-17 was also given to Smti. Boitha Thoo (AWW) of Rymbai Pompyrthat Aanganwadi Centre and at the District Level Anganwadi Award, Smti. Prosperity Molang (AWW) Moopala Anganwadi Centre, Smti. Pyntngenlang Dkhar Anganwadi Helper of Mookynpad Anganwadi Centre and Smti. Kynduhlang Rymbai (AWW) of Wapung Skur Anganwadi Centre under the Khliehriat ICDS. Similarly, award was also given to Smt. Thimoris Chyrmang, Anganwadi Helper of Narwan ‘A’ under the Saipung ICDS for the District Incentive Award for Helper 2017 – 18.

At Baghmara, South Garo Hills District, PHE Minister, Dr Celestine Lyngdoh unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 20 parade contingents at District Sports Complex Baghmara. Freedom Run, Community Sports like competition of Iron man and woman of Baghmara, children sports and Exhibition football match between D.C. IX versus MLA Team and cultural programmes are the highlights of the day.

At Dadenggre Civil Sub-Division, Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Shri Zenith M. Sangma unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of Marching contingents comprising of DEF, West Garo Hills, Little Flower Secondary School (boys and girls), Dilsigre Secondary School (boys and girls), Dadenggre Puri Govt. Higher Secondary School (boys and girls), Kings Way Academy Secondary School (boys and girls) and Tiny Rose Secondary School (boys and girls).

Other highlights of the programme include cultural items during the day are Vande Mataram Dance by Little Flower Secondary School, Patriotic Song by Dilsigre Secondary School, Patriotic Dance by Dadenggre Bethel English School, Taekwondo by K.G.B.V, Patriotic Dance by Dadenggre Puri Government Higher Secondary School, Skit by Tiny Rose Secondary School and Little Flower School and Patriotic Dance by King’s Way Academy School.

The item of the day which took the spot light was K.G.B.V School which showcased the talent set of an all-girls taekwondo squad under the supervision of Eugene K. Marak retired DSP and the President of Garo Hills Taekwondo Association. The team displayed their skill set and the art of self defence, which in these days are becoming a necessity encouraging the girls in the audience to take up the art.

At Mairang Civil Sub-Division, Smti F.M. Lakiang, SDO (C), Mairang Civil Sub – Division unfurled the National Flag and took the Salute of the 23 marching contingents comprising of police personnel, Junior Division NCC Cadets of St. Thomas Higher Secondary School, Scouts & Guides Company of Pyndengumiong Presbyterian Secondary School and different schools at Dommawlum playground, Pyndengumiong.

Other highlights of the day included cultural programmes, drill displays, patriotic songs and magic show by popular local magician John Lanong. Two football matches organised by the SDO (C) and BDO, Mairang was held, one being between the Block Level Officers (BLO) of Mairang and Mawthadraishan Constituency and the Medical team of West Khasi Hills District, the other match was played between The Mairang Civil Sub – Division Officers Club (MACSOC) versus the Sordars (Village Administrators) of Mairang Civil Sub – Division.

The Chief Guest distributed the prizes to the winners of marching contingents. 1st Prize goes to Langtor Government Upper Primary School, 2nd Prize to Don Bosco Upper Primary School, Mawsawa Mawmaram and 3rd Prize to Mission Mairang Upper Primary School in the Junior Category and in the Senior category the 1st prize went to Mairang Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, 2nd to Pyndemumiong Presbyterian Secondary School and 3rd prize to Khatsawphra Higher Secondary School. As part of the day’s celebration food packages were also distributed to the patients of the Hospitals in the Sub – Division.

At Amlarem Civil Sub-Division, Shri Stephanson Mukhim, Parliamentary Secretary unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute at  Amlarem Government Primary School Playground.

The celebration was marked by songs, cultural items, colourful dances and meaningful skit performed by the students of various schools and cultural troupes from the sub-division. The traditional Rongkusi dance was also presented by Nongbareh Lyntiar Dance troupe.

Meritorious students who performed exceedingly well in the SSLC and HSSLC examinations 2017 were felicitated on the occasion. The District Award for Anganwadi workers under ICDS project Amlarem was given to Smt. Duty Ryngksai for 2016-17 and the award for 2017-18 was given to Smt. Queesila Khonglah for their outstanding contributions in their respective field of work. Prizes were also distributed to the best marching contingent selected from amongst the participating schools. The celebrations ended with the screening of a Children’s film at Enowel Hall, Amlarem.

At Sohra Civil Sub-Division, Dr. M. Ampareen Lyngdoh, PWD (B) Minister unfurled the National Flag and took the salute of the 14 marching contingents comprising Meghalaya Police, NCC and School students at Sohra Sports Stadium.

The Chief Guest gave away the Open Defecation Free Villages Award under Shella Bholaganj C&RD Block to Nongthymmai Tyrna Village and Siej Village, Best Open Defecation Free Village Award under Shella Bholaganj C&RD Block to Wahkaliar and Natural Leader Award of Shella Bholaganj C&RD Block to Shri Precious Tariang Headman of Wahkaliar village.

Best Asha Worker 2017, Best Anganwadi Worker 2017, Best Teacher SBM Worker 2017, Best Open Defecation Free Village  and Natural Leader Award of Laitkroh Khatar Shnong C&RD Block goes to Smt. Jasynta Ranee of Nongtraw village, Smt. Byllai Swer of Laitsohpliah village, Shri. Neston Kharmawphlang of Laitsohpliah Village, Diengsoh Village and Shri. Agustin Sawian of Laitsohpliah Village respectively.

During the programme the Laitkroh Khatar Shnong C&RD Block was declared as an Open Defecation Free Block.Other highlights of the day include cultural Programme and distribution  of  Gift  Packages  to  the  patients  of  Sohra  N.R.M  Hospital, St. John  Orphanage  Home, Maraikaphon, Sohra, Borsing Syiem Children’s Home, Mawsmai and Pennial Orphanage, Mawjrong.

At Pynursla Civil Sub-Division, Shri A. L. Hek, MLA unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of the 25 parade contingents comprising of the police and school students at Urksew Umkor Pynursla Sport Club Stadium.

At Mawshynrut Civil Sub-Division, Shri K. C. Khyriem, Parliamentary Secretary unfurled the Nation flag and took the salute of 17 parade contingents at BDO’s office ground Riangdo. Other highlight of the programme include a football match between Tynrong Mawsaw and Seinduli-I wherein  Tynrong Mawsaw out-beat Seinduli – I by 2-1 goal.

At Raksamgre Civil Sub-Division, Parliamentary Secretary, Shri Limison Sangma unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 11 Parade contingents at Raksamgre Playground, Raksamgre. Other highlights of the day include cultural programmes.

At Chokpot Civil Sub-Division, Smti Bluebell R. Sangma, local MLA unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 21 Parade contingents at Warima Playground. Other highlights of the day include cultural programmes and children sports.

At Patharkhmah Administrative Unit, Shri Hopeful Bamon, Parliamentary Secretary unfurled the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute of 14 parade contingents comprising of MLP and students of various schools at Patharkhmah Playground. Cultural programmes and distribution of prizes by the Chief Guest were the other highlights of the day.

At Ranikor Administrative Unit Shri M. M. Danggo, PWD (Roads) Minister hoisted the National Flag and took the salute of the marching contingents comprising of 8 schools and Police at Nolikata playground, Ranikor. The other highlight of the day were Cultural items, sports and games and distribution of prizes

At Shangpung Elaka  Administrative Unit, Shri Comingone Ymbon, C&RD Minister unfurled the National flag and took the Rashtriya salute of 20 marching contingents of school students at Moosyiem football ground.

The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress Congress & Ri-Bhoi District Youth Congress celebrated 71st Independence Day by Hosted flag at D R Memorial English School in Presence of Mr. Richard M Marak, President MPYC, Mr. Kyrshan Pamshong, President SLYC, Mr. Rajesh Lapang, President RBDYC along with Office Bearers and Headmen of Amjok Village Bah Raju Jyrwa.After the Flag hosting we had Bike Rally for 8 KM from Byrnihat to Jorabat along with all the youth Congress workers of the Congress Party.
The officers and staff of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) celebrated the 71st Independence Day on 15th August, 2017 at its Head Quarter at Lum Jingshai, Shillong. Additional Chief Secretary and Chairman-cum-MD, MeECL, Shri P. S. Thangkhiew hoisted the National Flag. Civil Defence & Home Guards Department also took part in the celebration.

Border Security Force Frontier Headquarter, Meghalaya celebrated 71st Independence Day at Umpling & Mawpat Campuses which started with the `Flag Hoisting’ by Dr Sabu A Joseph, DIG/PSO of Meghalaya Frontier and followed by various programmes at Ward’s Lake Shillong. The Sentinels of border organised various programmes to interface with the local people at the famous lake at the heart of the city. The BSF dog squad demonstrated its skills in sniffing and tracking. A display of arms was also organised to make people familiar with the armoury of the border guards. A photo gallery and documentary on BSF were also shown to the visitors. The BSF Jazz and Brass bands played many melodious tunes and songs on the bank of the lake and entertained the crowd. The listeners praised the patriotic songs sung by the artists of Border Security Force. Despite of rainy weather people in huge number enjoyed the various programmes organised by Border Security Force.

BSF Senior Secondary School also celebrated Independence Day by organising beautiful cultural programmes. The BSF School Children and families of BSF Jawans also witnessed the above event. Dr Sabu A Joseph conveyed his greeting to all the member of the Force and their families.

Celebration of Independence Day; NEIGRIHMS along with other parts of the country celebrated the 71st Independence day of the country. Director, Dean, Dy. Director, Medical Superintendent, faculty, paramedical staff and ministerial staff of the Institute participanted in the event. The flag was hoisted by Director, NEIGRIHMS Pof.(Dr) D.M Thappa  at 8.15 am in the lawns of the Hospital. Speaking on the occasion Prof. Thappa conveyed to the audience his Vision for NEIGRIHMS.

He assured to have a grievance redressal mechanism very soon for faculty and other staff so that their genuine issues are addressed in a time bound manner. He said,’ Many infrastructure development plans are under way to expand the existing facilities of the Hospital. The Medical college building with 100 student intake capacity shall be ready by oct.2019 and after that the existing building can be decongested by shifting some sections to the new building”. Prior to the Flag hoisting, MBBS students and Nursing students sung patriotic songs. Following the flag Hoisting ceremony, a get together of NEIGRIHMS family was organized in the NEIGRIHMS guest house where employees and their family had a brief interaction and refreshment.
