Shillong, Sept 09: The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Meghalaya, today held a Video Conference with the Deputy Commissioners and District Election Officers (DCs/DEOs), Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) and other concerned election officials to review the progress of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026.
A separate weekly review meeting with representatives of the Recognized National and State Political Parties was also held today. The meetings reviewed the status of generation and delivery of notices, conduct of hearings, Claims and Objections, No Mapping and mapping discrepancy cases, appointment of Booth Level Agents (BLAs) and other activities relating to the ongoing revision process.
A detailed district-wise review of the Notice and Hearing Phase was undertaken. Out of 21,69,243 electors in the Draft Electoral Roll, a total of 6,51,735 notices has been generated, of which 6,20,730 notices have already been delivered. 31,005 notices remain pending for delivery.
The CEO directed all DEOs/EROs to make every effort to complete the delivery of the remaining notices at the earliest and ensure that the concerned electors receive adequate opportunity to attend their hearings and furnish the required supporting documents.
The hearing process is progressing across the State. As per the latest status, 2,08,870 hearings have been conducted, representing 32.05% of the notices generated. So far, 384 electors have been found ineligible following scrutiny and the prescribed process of hearing.
The CEO reiterated that receipt of a notice does not mean automatic deletion from the Electoral Roll. The notice provides an opportunity to the elector to clarify the discrepancy and furnish the prescribed supporting documents.
The EROs/AEROs were directed to ensure that no name appearing in the Draft Electoral Roll is deleted without due process, issuance of notice, inquiry and a fair and reasonable opportunity of hearing. Decisions in individual cases shall be taken only after examination of the facts and documents in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
Out of the 21,69,243 electors included in the Draft Electoral Roll, 2,22,786 electors have been identified under the “No Mapping” category, while 4,28,949 electors have been identified with mapping discrepancies. Accordingly, 6,51,735 electors have been identified for scrutiny and appropriate action in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
The CEO directed the district election machinery to closely monitor the verification and hearing of these cases and ensure that every elector concerned is provided adequate opportunity to establish eligibility and clarify any discrepancy.
Applications Received after Draft Publication
The status of applications received after publication of the Draft Electoral Roll was also reviewed. As per the latest figures, 6,804 Form 6 applications for inclusion, 738 Form 7 applications, 982 Form 8 applications for shifting and 4,427 Form 8 applications for correction have been received.
Accordingly, a total of 12,951 applications have been received after publication of the Draft Electoral Roll.
The CEO directed all EROs/AEROs to ensure proper scrutiny and timely disposal of the applications received in accordance with the prescribed procedure.
The CEO appreciated the continued participation of the Recognized National and State Political Parties in the SIR process. As per the latest position, 1,814 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) have been appointed across the State by the political parties — 736 by NPP, 186 by INC, 121 by UDP, 320 by VPP, 393 by BJP and 58 by AITC.
Political parties and their BLAs were requested to continue assisting electors in checking their electoral status, responding to notices, attending hearings and filing appropriate claims and objections wherever required.
In view of the situation that arose in Shillong last month, which resulted in disruption of the Claims and Objections and hearing process, the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR), 2026 in Meghalaya has been extended by 14 days to provide adequate opportunity to electors to participate in the revision process.
The revised schedule is as follows, Last date for filing claims and objection 18th September, 2026, last date for disposal of claims and objections and completion of hearings17th October, 2026, final publication of electoral Roll 21st October, 2026.
The CEO appealed to all eligible electors to make full use of the extended period. Electors whose names are not included in the Draft Electoral Roll may submit Form 6 along with the prescribed Declaration Form and supporting documents, while electors who have received notices should attend their hearings as scheduled and furnish the required documents.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer once again clarifies, If your name is in the Draft Electoral Roll and is mapped with SIR 2005, no further action is required.If your name is in the Draft Electoral Roll but is under No Mapping or has a mapping discrepancy.
You may receive a Notice for Hearing. Do not ignore the notice. Attend the hearing on the scheduled date and furnish the required supporting documents.
If your name is not included in the Draft Electoral Roll, Submit Form 6 along with the prescribed Declaration Form and supporting documents on or before 18th September, 2026.
The CEO also appealed to political parties and their BLAs, Traditional Institutions, Dorbar Shnongs, Nokmas, civil society organisations, media and all other stakeholders to continue assisting electors and extending their cooperation to the election machinery.
