Meghalaya defeated Goa 8-1 in the Sub-Junior NFC in Kalyani, West Bengal today

Shillong, Nov 24: Meghalaya tore Goa apart to win 8-1 in their second match of the Sub-Junior National Football Championship final round in Kalyani, West Bengal, today.

Daminot Wahlang (22′, 31′), Colinsalmon Lyngdoh (43′, 49′) and Samlang Rympei (62′, 80′) scored a brace each, while Baniatyllilang Mawkhiew (59′) and Clifford Lytan (70′) pumped in a goal each for Meghalaya. This was the most one-sided result in the final round so far this year. Assists were provided by Rympei, Lyngdoh, Mawkhiew and Wanboklang Wahlang.

As impressive as they were in front, the Meghalaya boys were also excellent in defence, mopping up any balls in their own half and generally keeping the Goans well away. However, Meghalaya couldn’t keep a clean sheet, with a Goa free-kick squeaking through in the 68th minute.

With two wins in two games Meghalaya are at the top of Group A with six points. Kerala, who bounced back after losing to Meghalaya with two victories, also have six points, but are behind on head-to-head as well as goal difference. Meghalaya will next take on Punjab on Tuesday. Punjab have drawn one and lost one match so far.
