Meghalaya Home Guards SI Awarded “Sword of Honour” in NEPA’s Passing Out Parade

Shillong, August 27: Cadet Sub Inspector ShuvamNongrum from the Meghalaya Civil Defence and Home Guards organization was today awarded the prestigious “Sword of Honour” at the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 48th Basic Course of Cadet Sub Inspector and Deputy Superintendent of Police Probationers at North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA), Umsaw, Ri Bhoi District.

Adjudged as the all-round Best Cadet Sub Inspector (CSI) from amongst 35 (Thirty-Five) fellow CSI from Manipur, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Meghalaya, Nongrum was also awarded medals for Best Cadet Outdoor, Best Cadet Police Operations, Best Cadet in Physical Trainingand Best Sportsperson.

Along with Nongrum, other Cadet Sub Inspectors from Meghalaya Civil Defence and Home Guards who were awarded for their best performance during the year long training are CSI TokiwayooIongwai who received the medal for Best Cadet Weapons Training, CSI Mark Andrew Thupbru who received the medal for Best Cadet in Physical Training and CSI SengsalyneSengatchi Ch. Marak who received a medal for Best Sportsperson (Women).

It may be mentioned that directly recruited Sub Inspectors and Dy SP ranked officers of the Meghalaya Civil Defence and Home Guards Organization are sent for one-year Basic Training at the North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) to be trained along with their counterparts from the police.

In this batch the department had sent 20 (Twenty) directly recruited Sub Inspectors for training at NEPA, Umsaw. By winning the “Sword of Honour” for the third time in a row, the Meghalaya Civil Defence and Home Guards has achieved a Hat Trick of sorts as trainee Sub Inspectors from the department were adjudged All Round Best Cadets in the year 2007, 31st Basic Course and in 2015, 41st Basic Course.
