Tura December 27: According to the report of the Controller and Auditor General of India report 51% of the villages in West Garo Hills District is yet to get road connection.
The total numbers of villages in the district are 1537 out of which only 749 villages is accessible by road and 788 villages are yet to get road connection.
The CAG observed that even after ten years of implantation of the central scheme PMGSY which is fully funded by the Government of India yet many road where left un complete.
The Chief Engineer of the PWD said that the reason for delay in road construction is due to limited working time and delay in payment to the contractors.
The others reason cited by the Chief Engineer is that the department could not complete the road construction is due to large bank sanction.
In the report the CAG stated that the reply given by the Chief Engineer was not convincing how can the department take up project without seeing the financial obligation before carrying out any project.(SP News)
