Shillong, Oct 01: NEIGRIHMS Hospital, Felicitation of blood donor groups and organizations who voluntarily donated blood especially during pandemic when there is shortage of donors, was held in NEIGRIHMS today.
This was to remembered as National Voluntary Blood Donation Day (after pioneer, Dr. Jai Gopal Jolly, who created awareness about voluntary blood donation in India).
The groups and organizations felicitated include the L & T (construction workers), Seng Longkmie Demseiniong, Manipur and Arunachal Students Union, Hebron EFCI, Zomi Baptist Youth Fellowship. Fifteen donors from these organizations donated blood today.
Blood bank NEIGRIHMS recently got a license for apheresis. The Apheresis machine (Spectra Optia) was procured for plateletpheresis, plasmapheresis and granulocytopheresis. With the Apheresis machine we will also be able to collect plasma from patients recovered from COVID-19 infection for convalescent plasma therapy.
The Department of Forensic Medicine, NEIGRIHMS, has also commenced conducting medico-legal examination of victims and accused in cases of alleged sexual assault. Microscopic examination of samples collected for determination of presence or absence of sperms and also seminal analysis can be carried out in the departmental laboratory too.
The department also receives and processes autopsy samples preserved for Histopathological Examination (HPE) to aid in establishing the cause of death on receipt of a police requisition and other documents necessary in this regard.
