Shillong, December 22: The Union minister of state Shripad Yesso Naik today  incahrge AYUSH dedicate the institute, North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy to the nation at Mawdiangdiang Shillong and that hope this prestigious institute will cater to the need of all the states of North East.

The Union Minister of state said that tThe primary aim of the institute is to produce quality human resource in the area of Ayush in general particularly in the ayurveda and homeopathy along with yoga system.

It will provide quality research and inter-disciplinary translational research in the area of plant based medical sciences namely ayurveda and homeopathy.Entire NE region is highly in natural resources and here abundantly available a large number of flora and fauna which will fulfil the quest of scientific community for research.

Shillong being the gateway of NE India and educational hub, will give additional benefit to the inter-disciplinary research and cooperation for exploring biological sciences. In entire NE India, there are in force good number of different types of folks and traditional healthcare practices among the different ethnic groups and tribes of the region.

So the knowledge of this traditional healer is to be preserved, need to be validated based on ethno botanical and scientific research with practical suitability for clinical practices. Further, establishment of this institute will produce quality medical graduates in streams of ayurveda and homeopathy and solve the problem of scarcity of doctors in the remote and hilly backward areas of the entire NE.

Quality and standard education will help suitably implement and improving execution of national health policy for the welfare of the needy people of the region. He hope that the serious involvement of this institute in research and development will also explore herbal agro based industry and ultimately promote the cultivation of medicinal plants in this region, which are most climatically suitable for large number of medicinal plants from high altitude to mid level altitude of the hilly areas.

The Union Minister of state Except Assam, all the North East hilly states are highly rich in their flora and fauna along with green vegetation but each state is not in a position to establish the academic institute of AYUSH system due to constraint of human resource and other factors.

He said that  this institute will cater to the need of the entire NE states for producing quality graduates of both Ayurveda and Homeopathy. The project was sanctioned in 2008 and it is functional with its OPD services with effect from November 4, 2010. Now the campus has been completed by its phase-I project and functional this year covering OPD, IPD and Community services covering ayurveda, homeopathy and yoga system.

It is a great privilege for me to declare here that the academic session of 2016-17 both under graduate teaching programme of A and H has been commenced. Admission has already been completed and teaching programme has been started. It comprised the second Ayurvedic College in the NE region with a Homeopathy College and the lone central academic institute of AYUSH.

The institute will enrich in the near future with 100 bedded A hospital and 50 bedded H hospital. Presently 60 bedded A hospital and 20 bedded H hospital are functional. To popularlize Panchakarma and Yoga will be the priority areas along with production of para-medical staffs for the development of skills for the youth of this region, may be well addressed by the institute in near future.

Production of Panchakarma therapy for curative preventive and promotional areas not only boost health care sector in government and private sector but it may be amalgamated with health tourism areas like Shillong and other promising tourist spots of the region for promotion of health tourism industries.

The system of Homeopathy is widely accepted by the people of NE especially people of Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. Due to its low cost and easy palatability. So this institute will further help for promotion quality improvement of homeopathy medicine practice in the region.

Along with Ayurvedic herbal pharmaceutical industry, homeopathic pharmaceutical industry, may have greater opportunity due to favourable environment for cultivation of medicinal plant. Health care management is not an isolated issue from the society. Healthcare science in greater sense is a social science. So from the view point of social sciences, medical anthropology or social anthropology may throw a better light for understanding and analyzing the social background of health issue of this region.

In india medical anthropology, not a highly develop science at present, but gradually observing the health problems of the economically develop society and to address different non-communicable diseases and lifestyle disorders, medical anthropological anaylises may help modern medical scientist to combat these non-communical diseases and lifestyle disorders.

Customs and traditions of each ethnic tribes definitely have certain reasoning based on their beliefs covering their eco-system, which traditionally teach them to keep themselves healthy and enjoy long live.
