Shillong, October 05: The Office of the Assistant Director of Local Fund Audit, Garo Hills, Tura was inaugurated today at Treasury Office Complex, West Garo Hills, Tura where Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi graced the occasion as Chief Guest.
While speaking during the inaugural function, Pravin Bakshi congratulated the staff and the Directorate of Local Fund Audit for the new office building which would be of great benefit for the Audit officers based in Garo Hills and would further facilitate and serve the purpose for which the office is being set up in the district. Auditing and accountability is necessary for all departments since it helps in efficient utilization of funds which are sanctioned by the government and funds comes from the public exchequer, he added. Moreover, he emphasized on the role and responsibilities of auditing and proper utilization of government fund in the districts.
Director, Local Fund Audit, Meghalaya, Shillong, Uttam Rai in his speech expressed gratitude for the new office building and enlightened the gathering about the background and history of the department. He informed that the then known as the department of Examiner of Local Accounts was bifurcated in the year 1990 from Treasury department and since had been renamed as Directorate of Local Fund Audit and is responsible for audit of local bodies such as District Council, etc, educational institutions and urban bodies in the state as per orders issued by the Ministry of Finance, government of India. He also informed that a committee has been constituted for amending the Audit Manual which would be sent to the state government for approval next year.
Senior Treasury Officer, West Garo Hills, Tura, T. K. Newar, other officials from various departments of the district, Audit officers both from Shillong and Tura and staff of Treasury office, Tura were among others present at the inaugural function.
Earlier in the programme, Assistant Director, Local Fund Audit, Garo Hills, Tura N. K. Thapa welcomed the gathering and also chaired the function, while Deputy Director, Local Fund Audit, Meghalaya Shillong, B. L. Nonglait proposed the vote of thanks.
