Rat Yatra Celebrated in Shillong by the Hindu

Shillong, July 11: Rath Yatra, the chariot festival was celebrated in Shillong amongst the Hindu devotees.

This festival of the Hindus involves transporting deities on a chariot

The idols of Jagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra which was kept in the chariot were taken out in a procession as part of the Jagannath rath yatra in the town today and was pulled by devotees.

The atmosphere turns spiritual and powerful with prayers from the devotees and the presence of deities add a different zing to the ambiance.

Large number of People gathers outside the temple premises in Shillong to have a share in pulling the long ropes attached to the chariots which they considers brings good luck.

As the chariots were pulled around town devotees followed in large numbers and seek blessing from their gods.

It may also be mentioned here that this festival is a symbol of equality and integration.(SP News)
