Shillong, April 6: The 2nd YAI North East Regatta 2024 culminated today at the Umiam Sailing Club, Orchid Lake Resort, Watersports Complex in Shillong, marking the end of an exhilarating display of sailing prowess and camaraderie.
Hosted by the Umiam Sailing Club (USC) and the UDAY for Sailors Foundation in collaboration with the Yachting Association of India (YAI), the Regatta witnessed the participation of over 130 sailors hailing from various corners of the nation. 107 participants representing 17 clubs across 10 distinct classes competed in the event, showcasing their skill and passion for sailing.
The closing ceremony was graced by eminent personalities, including Dr. L.R. Bishnoi, IPS, Director General of Police as the chief guest, Shri Cyril C. Diengdoh, IAS, CEO of Umiam Sailing Club, Lt. Col. Alok Yadav, Shri Robert Lyngdoh, Member Secretary USC.
Speaking as the chief guest, Dr. LR Bishnoi, DGP, emphasized the importance of keeping one’s body healthy which improves one’s physical and mental skills. The DGP also stressed on positive thinking in spite of challenges.
Reflecting on the success of the regatta, Shri Cyril V.D. Diengdoh, IAS, CEO of Umiam Sailing Club encouraged young people to take up sailing and thanked the organizers for the success of the event.
Col Yadav, Director of Regatta, informed that the number of participants stood at 107 from 17 different clubs. He exhorted sailing enthusiasts to join the Umiam Sailing Club.
The overall results of the Regatta saw the NSS club securing the highest number of gold medals, with NBSC and INWTC (M) claiming the second spot, followed closely by TSA and EMESA.
The 2nd YAI North East Regatta 2024 served as a significant platform for fostering sportsmanship, promoting fair competition, and advancing the sport of sailing in the State.
