The BSF arrested Mr Rason with two elephant tusks of Baljori village of WGH District

Shillong, May 30: Base on a tip off shared by the BSF Meghalaya,  a Joint Operation was conducted  by Meghalaya Police team of Purakhasia, under West Garo Hills District with wild life department on 28th May 2020 and searched the house of Rason D sangma at Baljori village.

During the raid the party recovered 02 elephant tusks measuring 3 feet and other one 2 ½ feet. During the raid, suspected accused Rason D sangma was also arrested and was interrogated for further leads.

It is believed that, the recovered elephant tusks was extracted from the elephant which was killed in the jungle of Belabore West Garo Hills on the fateful night of 19th April 2020.

In the last five month three carcasses of elephant have been recovered in the jungle area of Garo Hills adjoining the International Boundary in Meghalaya with their tusk hacked off. It is suspected that well-knit poaching syndicate is behind these killings.

Mr Kuldeep Saini, IG BSF Meghalaya lauded the commendable achievements during the joint operation conducted by Local police and wild life department on the actionable inputs of BSF intelligence branch of Meghalaya.

He further said that BSF always work in close coordination with the district administration, police and other sister agencies to prevent illegal activities along the international boundary.
