Ampati, November 01: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Monday inaugurated the 26th Annual conference of the Garo Hills Deficit Teacher’s & Employees Association (GHDTEA) at Ampati Multi Facility Centre near here. The Chief Minister also unfurled the flag of the GHDTEA and released the amended constitution of the association in the presence of other guests and invitees.
Reacting to various demands made by the association the Chief Minister stated that the government has considered and responded to the demands made by distinguished teachers of the secondary and higher secondary level because the whole exercise for the particular group had been completed by the department. We want each and every teacher to respond to the demand to prepare our children for the future generation that is why we have responded He said.
Emphasizing on the need for optimal utilization of available funds Sangma informed that though the ADB had never supported any educational schemes in the past the government had managed to convince them of the uniqueness of government’s approach and how it could be adopted by other states. We are now at the least being able to take care of infrastructural needs of 127 secondary and higher secondary schools across the state Sangma said.
The Chief Minister while admitting that there was a need to prepare and develop programs to provide better education at the elementary level stated that education was the only thing that made all other things come in line. He also informed that the government was working on all pertinent issues pertaining to the teaching community and that it would be solved soon.
The Chief Minister while speaking on certain policies made by the central government that were detrimental to the overall growth of the education sector of state said that these policies looked like it was designed to benefit vested groups at the cost of the nation. Sangma stated that policies had to be designed in such a way as to benefit the stakeholders directly for the sake of nation building and to prepare the youth for future generations.
The Chief later wished the association success in their endeavors and thanked the organizers for inviting him to be part of the gathering.
