The Government of Meghalaya implemented GEDP at Jarain in West Jaintia Hills District

Jowai, Feb 09: The village has a community forest which play a major role in conservation of the Environment and which makes it possible for implementation of Green Energy Development  Project (Pico Hydroger) an initiative of the Government of Meghalaya.

The Installation of Pico Turbine was done here on 28/08/2021 by the staff from MINR, MBDA with the assistance of Field Engineers from Amlarem C & RD Block, West Jaintia Hills, and the members of Jarain VEC.

Pitcher plant Lake at Jarain Introduction Jarain is a village located in Amlarem Block of West Jaintia Hills District which is 15 KM from Jowai town. The village is well known for its Pitcher Plant Lake that was built by the Government of Meghalaya Soil and Water Conservation Department.

The lake is conveniently located on the Jowai-Amlarem Road. MINR staff, FEs MBMA along with members of Jarain VEC Reservoir Objective The main objective of the project is to generate electricity by utilizing the natural resources to its full potential and serve the Village with an ecofriendly energy.

With the help of Pico Hydroger the village will be benefited with street lighting and also it helps the students to charged their smartphone and allows them to attend their online classes without getting interrupted during load shedding of MeECL. Power House Infrastructure The Pico Turbine installed generates approximately 3KW of electricity.

The Project infrastructure includes laying of pipelines which acts as a Penstock from the existing reservoir filled from a perennial spring which is then fed to the PicoTurbine placed in the Power House.
