Shillong, April 17: The Jaiñtia Students’ Union, Jowai Circle, under the leadership of President Mr. Born Rupon and General Secretary Mr. Rio Pyrtuh, convened a meeting with the Chief Postmaster of Jowai Post Office to address repeated complaints from the public regarding the misconduct of postal staff.
The Citizens have reported instances of disrespectful behaviour, rude remarks, and arrogant treatment while sending their parcels, which has caused distress and humiliation to the people of Jaiñtia Hills.
During the meeting, the Union emphasized that such conduct is a violation of the Post Office Act, 2023 and the Post Office Rules, 2024, which mandate that postal employees must treat customers with respect, handle mail responsibly, and follow proper security protocols without harassment.
The Union has formally submitted a memorandum to the Chief Postmaster, with a copy forwarded to the Superintendent of Post Offices, Shillong Division, demanding immediate corrective measures.
The Chief Postmaster has agreed to take this matter seriously and assured that clear rules and guidelines will be displayed for the public not only in Hindi and English but also in Khasi and other local languages, so that people from rural and remote areas are not misled or harassed.
The Jaiñtia Students’ Union welcomes this commitment and will continue to monitor the situation closely. If corrective measures are not implemented in a timely manner, the Union will be compelled to take further steps to safeguard the rights and dignity of the people of Jaiñtia Hills.
