The Meghalaya High court dismissed the write petition in the PDS sugar case

Shillong, July 03: The Meghalaya High court after hearing the write petition filed by the Mr Santosh Purushottam Purohit manager of the company M/s Garden Court Distilleries Private Limited, Mumbai, Maharashtra state against the State of Meghalaya for his disqualification in the NIT biding for supply of PDS sugar in the government of Meghalaya.

After hearing the write petition from the learned counsel from both the petitioner and the respondent, the Meghalaya High Court said that, it did not find any merit in the write petition. Hence, it stands dismissed and disposed; as a consequence, the order dated 25.5.2016 stands vacated”

In this write petition case No.165 of 2016, the petitioner has filed the case before the hon’ble Mr Justice S R Sen through advocate Miss P Bhattacharjee and the respondent appear on the court by Mr HS Thangkhiew advocate on behalf of the state government. After hearing both the parties the court has observed that sugar is meant for the common people under the Public Distribution System.

The court also observed that, more care should be taken so that inferior quality sugar is not supply to the public, for the reason discussed above the hon’ble court pronounces in its judgement that the case stands dismissed and disposed of, at the same time the court vacated the order that was passed on the 25th May 2016.

With this judgement, the Food and civil supply and consumer affair department   government of Meghalaya now can take the final decision to give the final order for supply of PDS sugar to the state of Meghalaya.
