The Meghalaya Koch Students’ Union held rally at Ampati demand justice for gang-rape victims

Ampati, May 9, 2024: The Meghalaya Koch Students’ Union (MKSU) organized a silent mass rally at Ampati on Thursday in protest against gangrape of two minor girls during the annual Chenga Benga Mela at Gandhipara village near Garobadha on April 16, 2024.

More than 7,500 people representing various organizations, including, Meghalaya Koch Association, Meghalaya Koch Women’s Association, All A’chik Youth Federation, Meghalaya Hajong Welfare Association.

The Garo Students’ Union, A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement and Ampati Youth Welfare Organization, participated in the rally, which commenced from the Ghasura Cultural Centre and culminated at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Ampati.

The rally demanded justice for the gang-rape victims and called for enhanced security and safety for women within the state. A memorandum to this effect was submitted to the South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Hema Nayak after the culmination of the rally.
