Shillong, Oct 29: The Meghalaya people Committee on Aadhaar in the statement today said that,owing to the Honourable Supreme Court Bench on Aadhaar having ruled on 26 September, 2018, that Aadhaar is not necessary for bank account, mobile, internet, website connections, hard earned pension, school admissions including CBSE, NEET, UGC and that persons who have enrolled Aadhaar for the aforementioned, may opt out from Aadhaar.
The MPCA has decided to continue with the Opt Out Campaign which began late last year and also to assist persons who want to so opt out. Therefore those who wish to opt out, may do so at the Khasi Students’ Union Central Body Office, Jaiaw, Shillong w.e.f. from today 29 October, 2018 till Tuesday, 13 November, 2018 for assistance, except on Saturdays and Sundays.
With regard to need of Aadhaar for Govt. welfare schemes and subsidies, MPCA is exploring other possibilities of opting out but for now, the SC Ruling on Section 7 of the Aadhaar Act has to be adhered to.On this first day, 29/10/2018, more than 100 persons desiring to opt out from Aadhaar, have visited the KSU Office.
