Shillong, Nov 29: The Meghalaya Aids Control Society (MACS) will observe the worlds Aids day on first December. The society has taken up various programmed to create awareness among the people that is a killer disease.
The theme of this year is to get zero Aids related death, zero new infections, zero discrimination. As per records with the MACS, till October this year Meghalaya had 1163 HIV and AIDS patient, each year the number of patient increased.
The MACS started recording the patient since 2007 at this year the number of patient is only 14 but in October 2013 the number of patients is 1163. The project Director told media person the rise might be that people are aware and might be due to the facilities that they have for testing and screaming a person who want to know about his status.
The main concern that the MACS want to prevent is the transmission from mother to a child. Aids related death in Meghalaya was also on the rise, in 2008 one person die from Aids, in 2009 four person, in 2010 twelve person, in 2011 twenty 22 person, in 2012 thirty seven person and in 2013 sixty two person die from this sickness all together 79 person die from Aids.
The ages groups that were infected by HIV Aids in Meghalaya below 14 is 4%, age from 15 to 24 is 19% and the age groups from 25 to 34 is 43% and age group from 35 to 49 is 29% and above 50 years of age is 5%. At the national average level Meghalaya is 0.13% which is below the national level which is 0.48%.(SP News)
