Maligaon, January 06: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of Northeast Frontier Railway conducted different drives over the zoneand apprehended ninetouts during last few days for illegal sale of railway tickets.
During 2ndto 4th January, 2024, RPF of N. F. Railway recovered 55 railway E-Tickets worth more than Rs. One lakh.Apprehended touts were prosecuted under the relevant section of the Railways Act.
In a recent incident on 4thJanuary, 2024, CIB team of RPF and New Jalpaiguri jointly with RPF of Bagdogra conducted a raid and search operation at ‘Swadist Hotel’located at Thakurganj, Bihar.
During the drive, the RPF team apprehended one personand recovered four railway E-Tickets worth approx. Rs.13,700/-. RPF and NFR from different posts, on 4th January, 2024, conducted more similar checks and drives at multiple locations and apprehended four more touts and recovered twenty-seven railway E-Tickets worth approx. Rs. 34,900/-. In this regard,a case was registered under section 143 of the Railways Act at respective posts for all the above incidents.
Similarly, in an incidenton 3rd January, 2024, CIB team of RPF/Rangiya, conducted a check and drive with the assistance of local authority, in a shop located atBalipara. During the drive, the RPF team apprehended one personand recovered six railway E-Tickets worth approx.Rs.14,370/-.
In another incident, on same day, a team of RPF/Samsi,conducted a drive at a shop at Malda Road, West Bengal and apprehended one tout with four railway E-Tickets worth approx. Rs. 4,420/-. A case was registered at respective posts for both the above incidents under section 143 of the Railways Act.
On 2nd January, 2024,CPDS team of RPF/ Alipurduar Jn.jointly with RPF of New Coochbeharconducted a drive in a shop located at Gosaigaon, Kokrajhar in Assam. During checking, the RPF team apprehended one personand recovered nine railway E-Tickets worth Rs.29,590/- (approx.).
On the same day,again CPDSteam of RPF and Alipurduar Jn. jointly with RPF of Kokrajhar conducted checking in a shop located atGosaigaon, Kokrajhar in Assam and apprehended one personand recovered five railway E-Tickets worth Rs.5,350/-(approx.). In this regard, a case was registered for both the incidents at respective posts under section 143 of the Railways Act.
The RPF of N. F. Railway keeps close vigil on touting activities to prevent illegal selling of railway E-Tickets. Unauthorized supply and procurement of railway tickets is a punishable offence under section 143 of the Railways Act.
