There are 723 degrees and diplomas were conferred at the 13th Convocation of the MLCU

Shillong, June 30: The 13th Convocation of the Martin Luther Christian University was held on June 30, 2021 through the social media platform of the University’s YouTube channel.

The Governor of Meghalaya, and Visitor of the university, Shri Satya Pal Malik gave the presidential address. Ms Silbi Passah a folklorist, traditional music composer and teacher, delivered the convocation address.

During the ceremony, 723 degrees and diplomas were conferred including 12 PhD, 18 MPhil, 359 Master’s, 13 PG Diplomas, and 255 Bachelor’s degrees. Diplomas and certificates were awarded to 66 scholars.

Congratulating the graduates of 2020,the Hon’ble Governor expressed his happiness to see that in spite of the pandemic and its many hurdles, the students persisted and worked hard to complete their degrees.

He noted that online and remote learning has been a new learning experience for students and teachers and much supporthas evidently been provided through teacher-student communication and mentorship.

He also commended the outlook of MLCU and its provision of relevant academic courses, emphasizing the strengthening ofindividuals and communities at the grassrootlevel.

The Governor also congratulated the University for acquiring land for its permanent campus for which planning and development is underway, and he hopes that the University will stand as a beacon for surrounding communities.

In her speech Kong Silbi Passah, stated that the degrees received are like an insurance policy with a premium paid off in full by the students’ hard work.

She added that “for the youth, life begins after graduation and setting careers and establishing a secure life is important. It is now time for the graduates to explore, impart and put into practice what they have learnt, and to work for the welfare of the needy and downtrodden”.
