Shillong June 06: The Conglomeration of various social organization from South West Khasi Hills District under the banner, Joint Action Committee of Social Organization (JACSO) today met the Chief executive Member of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Mr PN Syiem urging the executive committee not to give any No Objection Certificate (NOC) for the propose road construction from Nongstoin, Wahkaji to Mawthabah if it is from Uranium mining.
In the Memorandum submitted to the CEM of the KHADC as per their information that they have gather, these two lane road that will be constructed from Nongestion Via Wahkaji to Mawthabah is for Uranium manning purposes. The JACSO said that the issue is very sensitive therefore the KHADC should be very cautious with these issued.
The JACSO, want that the prime minister office should clarified to the state government and to the District Council, what is the intention of constructing this road in the remotest area which is not in consonance with the guideline of the National High Way rule and regulation.
The Chairman of the JACSO Mr Wallam Syiemiong said that, they welcome development, but if the development work is for mining uranium they will opposed, they need development not displacement and health hazard related problem for the generation to come. They are opposing uranium mining not only in that area but in the entire Khasi Hills District.
In the discussion the CEM of the KHADC assured the delegation that he will take up this issued with the Committee constituted for these purpose as headed by one Executive Member Mr Headrian Lyngdoh to fine out what is the intention of the Government of India in Construction of this road.
