SHILLONG, July 19: The Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association (MSSASTA) central body on Tuesday met Education Minister R C Laloo seeking clarification on the amount sanction and approved by the PAB with regards to their salary enhancement of lower and upper primary teachers under SSA schools.
Speaking to the media after their meeting with the Minister, SSA working president Aristotle C Rymbai informed that the Minister had assured them that the matter will be taken up for discussion at the next cabinet meeting.He also inform that the Minister has further assured the association that the new enhancement for 12, 481 SSA teachers will come into effect as per the financial year of the central government.
“He has however not given us any details regarding the amount to be enhanced since he had told us that the matter will first be put up the state cabinet,” he said adding that they are demanding enhancement of salary from Rs 9200 to Rs 30,000 for LP teachers and Rs 9900 to Rs 35,000 for UP teachers.
On their demands to regularise teaches, he said the Minister informed that the government is still studying their qualifications.
He informed that the qualification of teachers will have to be as per NCTE norms in which LP teachers should passed class XII with minimum 45 percentage and having completed DL.ED and for UP teachers they need to have a degree along with 45 percentage including DL.ED. He further informed that there are currently 6000 SSA teacher who have been able to enrolled and completed the Diploma in Elementary Education (DL.ED).
