Guwahati JULY 17: Off late there has been much talk about the growing Maoist Threat in the North East including Assam, following the arrest of few leaders in Assam. Time and again Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, have been raising concern of Maoist making inroad in the state of Assam and having links with ULFA and other militant organizations of the North East.
Former Union Home Secretary G K Pillai said today that “ Maoist is not a major threat in the North east but we have to be careful, they fish where ever there is discontent, where there is lack of development Maoist try to come and occupy the space. It is the duty of the state government and the district administration that they don’t allow them to develop in these areas.
Though Maoist not a major threat to the North East they would try to build bases and work on a long term strategy something that the government has to prepare for”, Speaking on China-India border dispute Pillai said “ We are engaged in bi-lateral talks with China to resolve border disputes, we are Chain,s biggest trading partner as said by the Chinese premier during his India Visit, opportunities exist in both sides to correct the imbalances in the business and there is tremendous scope for development”.
