Preparation for People.s Parlimanet gain momentum

Nongstoin January 23: Hundreds of Village Chiefs, Clan Chiefs under West Khasi Hills in a meeting on 21st and 22nd Jan 2013 held at Mairang  Office of Syiem Hima Nongkhlaw, and Nongstoin Office of Syiem Hima Nongstoin,  respectively unanimously resolve to attend the fourth Dorbar Ri – Peoples Parliament to be held on 13 Feb 2013.  Among other resolutions the Dorbar resolved to urge the Govt of India to fulfil the treaty rights under the Instrument of Accession and Annexed Agreement 17 Aug 1948, of the Khasi States, which would facilitate the constitution of a seperate Article and a seperate Council for the institution of the Chiefs (Syiem, Lyngdoh, Sirdar, Wahadadar, Dolloi, Nokma) Indigenous Institutions of Self Government of the Khasi, Jaintia and Garo people of Meghalaya.

Bah John F Kharshiing, Co-Chairman, MIDC, Govt of Meghalaya, Chairman, Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, & Spokesperson, Federation of  Khasi States, quoting from the speech of former Prime Minister Late Rajiv Gandhi, in parliament while introducing  the 73rd and 74th Amendments of the Constitution on 15 May 1989, stated that  Meghalaya, Nagaland and  Mizoram, was exempted from the bill because quote  “There exist institutions of self government…which must be preserved….in these three states the traditional systems will be left undisturbed” unquote.

The meeting was addressed and attended by Paiem Phrester Manik Syiemlieh, Syiem Hima Nongkhlaw, ha ka jingiadon lang ki Myntri, Paiem Phylla Singh Syiem, Syiem Hima Nongstoin, Paiem Nangtei Syiemiong, Syiem Hima Langrin, Paiem Order Syiemsad, Syiem Hima Rambrai, Sirdar Hima Jyrngam, Hima Nonglang, Hima Riangsih, Hima Myriaw, Hima Mawiang, Myntri’s, Lyngdoh, and hundreds of Sordar(Village Chiefs), under  Hima Nongkhlaw and Nongstoin, including elders and Bah John F Kharshiing, Co-Chairman, MIDC, Govt of Meghalaya, Chairman, Grand Council of Chiefs of Meghalaya, & Spokesperson, Federation of  Khasi States.(SP News)
