Shillong, June 17: Various social organisation in the state which comprises of CSWO, KSU, HNYF, FKJGP besides others along with the residents of over 20 villagers of new Shillong asked the KHADC to pass a resolution demanding a moratorium or final stop on acquisition of community land by the State Government at the beginning of the KHADC session which will start from Tuesday.
While the state government one to put a stop to all acquisitions against people’s wishes for the new Shillong township project, the delegation also said that such rampant acquisition of Community lands is unwarranted and should be immediately stopped.
“The land acquisition should be stop as it is clear that Government is acting as an agent to acquire Raid land for companies and private sectors which cannot be entertained and also violates the Meghalaya Land Transfer Regulation Act 1971,”
In a press statement issued here on Monday it was mentioned that the rights are enshrined in the 6th schedule of the constitution.
In connection to this the delegation urged the immediate intervention of the District Council which has been specifically appointed under the sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution.(SP News)
