The CBI Special judge Assam, Guwahati convicted shri Pranab Paul Choudhury

Shillong, January 7, 2013 Shri Ikramul Hussain, Ld. Special Judge of CBI, Assam, Guwahati vide Judgement and Order dtd. 20.12.2012 convicted accused Shri Pranab Paul Choudhury, the then Head Cashier, United Bank of India, Arunachal Branch, District-Cachar, Assam (since dismissed from service) in common three Special Case No. 2/2006, 3/2006 and 4/2006 of CBI/ACB/Shillong Case No.RC7(A)/2003-SHG to suffer Rigorous Imprisonment (R.I) for 4 (four) years and to pay a fine of Rs.50,000/- (Rupees fifty thousand) only, under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1) (c) of the P.C. Act, 1988 and under Section 409 IPC.

In default of payment of fine, accused shall undergo R.I. for another six months. Accused is also convicted under Section 477 A IPC and sentenced him to suffer R.I. for 3 (three) years and to pay a fine of Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees twenty five thousand), in default of payment of fine accused shall under undergo R.I. for another three months and under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1) (d) of the P.C. Act, 1988, and sentenced him to suffer R.I. for 4 (four) years and to pay a fine of Rs.50,000/- (Rupees fifty thousand) only in default of payment of fine, he shall undergo R.I. for another six months. Sentences of imprisonment will run concurrently.

This refers to CBI/ACB, Shillong Branch case No.RC.7(A)/2003-SIL, which was registered on 19.09.2003 and three separate Charge sheets were filed on 25.01.2006 against the accused Shri Pranab Paul Choudhury U/s 409, 468, 477 A IPC and Section 13 (2) read with 13(1) (c) & (d) of P.C. Act, 1988 in the Court of Ld. Special Judge, CBI, Assam, Guwahati. The case related to alleged misappropriation of funds for total amounting to 59,84,000/- from various customers’ accounts by the accused Shri Pranab Paul Choudhury while posted and functioning as Head Cashier of the Bank.
