West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner A Ch Marak unfurled the Tri Color at Tura

TURA,January 26: Together with the rest of the country theDC West Garo Hills Ambrose Ch Marak unfurled the Tri Color amidst much gaiety and fun fare. West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner in charge and DRDA Project Director Ambrose Ch Marak unfurled the Tri Color and took the Rashtriya Salute marking the beginning of the daylong celebration.ࠊ

Addressing the gathering Marak stated that 63 years ago on this very day th people of the nation took an oath to uphold the unity of the country. Informing that the law and order situation in West Garo Hills had been quite stable for the past many years, Marak however stated that the activities of the proscribed, Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) was a cause for concern. Stating that that police establishments will now be electronically linked enabling the continuous tracking of criminals Marak said that the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network System (CCTNS) project will enhance professionalism in the State Police force.

Recalling the democratic endeavors of patriots from the state and the country in the freedom struggle to bring the country out of the chains of colonialism Marak stated that the youth of today should imbibe in themselves the same kind of patriotic fervor and abstain from pursuing their cause through undemocratic means. Marak later urged the people to cooperate with the government in creating a conducive environment to enable the successful implementation of various government programs for the development and prosperity to the region.

During the day ten contingents from the state police, Home Guards and Scouts and Guides from various schools performed the march past followed by a tableaux presentation by various government departments. The daylong celebration was marked by a cultural programme, tug of war and sports for children.

The Chief Guest later distributed prizes to winners of the tableaux presentation and the cultural programme.(SP News)
