Shillong, jan 11: The death of Dilseng M Sangma, who was assaulted by a group of people involved in illegal mining, has left every civilised citizen of the state in utter shock, dismay and disbelief. BJP Meghalaya joins the rest of the citizens in mourning the loss of a human life, snatched from us way too early, in the most brutal manner possible.
Death of any kind brings about great sorrow; a murder gnaws at the heart of any sane human being. What compounds the situation even further and makes us diubly anguished is the fact that the young man hailed from the Garo community; a community whose contribution to the state is immeasurable.
This appalling occurence, yet again brings to fore the menace of illegal mining in Meghalaya and the disasters that periodically arise from it. The state has witnessed such events in the past across regions, be it in Jaintia Hills or Khasi Hills; this incident in Garo Hills just adds to a long list of crimes and human tragedies arising out of an evil that needs immediate eradication.
While demanding the harshest punishment for the perpetrators of this crime, State BJP appeals to the Chief Minister to ensure that this time around the administration goes beyond a few arrests.
The entire case of illegal mining across sectors have to be investigated thoroughly, corrective actions initiated, unlawful activities permanently stopped and every individual involved brought to book. Else tears will continue to pour from the eyes of mothers across Meghalaya, said Mr. Mariahom Kharkrang Chief Spokesperson BJP Meghalaya Pradesh.
