The Deputy Commissioner of EKH district brief political parties on SIR, 2026

Shillong, May 19: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills District Smti. R M Kyrbah along with the officer on Monday brief all the political parties on the Special intensive Revision (SlR), 2026 of Electoral Rolls.

ln pursuance to the directions issued by the Election Commission of lndia regarding the conduct of the Special lntensive Revision (SlR), 2026 of Electoral Rolls across the country, and in view of the inclusion of the State of Meghalaya under Phase-lll of the said nationwide exercise.

A meeting with representatives of recognised National and State Political Parties functioning in East Khasi Hills District v/as convened today in the office of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Shillong.

During the meeting, the representatives of the political parties were briefed in detail on the objectives, scope, timelines, operational modalities and stakeholder responsibilities relating to the Special lntensiv’e Revision as communicated by the Election Commission of lndia through the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya.

It was informed that East Khasi Hills District presently comprises 17 Assembly Constituencies covering a total of 1021 Polling Stations.

During the meeting, the following important aspects of the revision exercise were discussed, Schedule of Phasr-lll Special lntensive Revision The detailed programme communicated by the Election Commission of India for the State of Meghalaya was shared with the representatives.

The Qualifying Date: 01.10.2026, Preparation, Training and Printing: 20.06.2026to 29.06.2026, House-to-House Verification by Booth Level Officers (BLOs): 30.06.2026to 29.O7.2026, Rationalisation of Polling Stations: By 29.O7.2026, Publication of Draft Electoral Roll: 05.08.2026.

Period for Filing Claims and Objections: 05.08 .2026 to 04.09.2026, Disposal of Claims and Objections: 05.08.2026 to 03.10.2026, Publication of Final Electoral Roll: 07.70.2026, Reference to the 2005 Electoral Roll.

It was informed that the Electoral Roll of the year 2005, available on the official website of the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya and the website of East Khasi Hills District shall serve as the “Legacy Roll” for reference during the Special lntensive Revision process, in accordance with the instructions issued by the Election Commission of lndia.

Role of Electoral Registration Officers It was highlighted that the designated Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) shall be responsible for the overall conduct, supervision, scrutiny, verification and implementation of the Special lntensive Revision exercise within their respective Assembly Constituencies in accordance with the provisions of the electoral laws and directions of the Commission.

House-to-House Visit by Booth Level Officers It was informed that Booth Level Officers (BLOs) shall undertake house-to-house visit of electors within their respective polling areas on the scheduled dates.

Role of Political Parties and Booth Leve! Agents, Political parties were requested to nominate and appoint Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for every polling station to ensure active participation, timely verification and transparency during every stage of the revision exercise.

Appeal to the traditional Heads, The Office of the Deputy Commissioner will write to all the Dorbar Shnongs in the district to apprise of the Special lntensive Revision exercise and to solicit the support and cooperation of the Dorbars in disseminating information to the Electorate on the house visits by the Booth Level Officers and the subsequent hearingsto be conducted bythe Electoral Registration Officers.

Public Awareness and Cooperation, The importance of ‘widespread public awareness, timely verification and active cooperation of all stakeholders was emphasised to ensure that the electoral rolls remain accurate, inclusive and free from discrepancies.

The representatives of the political parties were also given an opportunity to seek clarifications on various procedural and operational aspects of the exercise, which were duly explained during the meeting.

The District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, appealed to all political parties, electors and stakeholders to extend full cooperation to the election machinery and actively participate in the Special intensive Revision, 2026, so as to ensure successful completion of the exercise in a transparent, participative and time-bound manner.

Further updates, schedules and notifications relating to the exercise shall be disseminated through the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya, the Office of the District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, and through the Electoral Registration Officers by means of official communication.
