Meghalaya Govt pushes public outreach on single emergency Number 112

Shillong, May 19: In an effort to promote and create awareness about the Single Emergency Number ‘112’ under the Emergency Response Support System (ERSS), the Office of the District Magistrate, East Khasi Hills District, Meghalaya, has urged all Block Development Officers (BDOs) in the district to conduct awareness drives in their respective areas.

The Emergency Response Support System has been consistently delivering reliable services since its launch in 2018. Over the years, the initiative has established a unified and integrated emergency response mechanism that is now fully operational and serving citizens across diverse locations.

The administration stated that the ultimate success of this vital service depends heavily on public awareness. To ensure that the service fulfills its intended purpose, it is imperative to maximize outreach efforts so that every citizen is aware of the assistance provided by the Government through this system.

The objective can be achieved through widespread and sustained publicity campaigns. When people are aware that help is only a phone call away, it helps build trust in the ‘112’ helpline and encourages timely reporting of emergencies.
