Shillong, August 03: Sawmer and Rangdajied United will be in action on Tuesday as the second round of the Shillong Premier League 2026 begins, with both teams looking for their first win of the season. Kick-off at the SSA Stadium will be at 4pm.
Sawmer went down 1-0 to defending champions Langsning on 25 July while Rangdajied were held to a 1-1 draw by Meghalaya Police on 28 July.
RUFC were fifth and Sawmer sixth in the SPL last season and both gave a good account of themselves in their respective opening match. Rangdajied are seven-time runners-up in the competition and also won it once – in 2013, which is too far back for most of their young players to even remember.
They have strengthened their squad in recent weeks and months, with Dameki Khongstia being their lead man, though he had to be substituted around an hour into the last game with what looked like an injury. Henryford Nongneng, who came over from Shillong Lajong, has also strengthened their defensive preparedness.
Sawmer could have been overawed by Langsning but the way they took the fight to the champions was a delight to watch. They were mostly defensive, though they did look to hit Langsning on the counter and the presence of new players like Raikutshisha Buam and Banteilang Lyngdoh made them dangerous. They conceded only in the 81st minute and will aim to come out on top against Rangdajied’s young team.
