CBI arrests absconding branch post master in post office savings fraud case

New Delhi, August 30: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today, i.e., 27.08.2026, has arrested an absconding accused, Smt. Shabda Swain, the then Branch Post Master, Bonda, Odisha, from Bargarh, Odisha, in Post Office Savings Fraud Case.

The accused during her posting as Branch Post Master of Bonda Post Office during the period 2008 to 2014, misappropriated Rs. 13,98,232 collected from depositors by not accounting the deposits in the official records by making false entries in the passbooks.

The accused was absconding since framing of charges on 31.12.2015 in the CBI, ACB, Bhubaneswar case No. RC 17(A)/ 2014-BBS. Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW) against her was issued in 2022.

After sustained and persistent efforts by CBI, she has been apprehended while she came to attend a family function at Bargarh, Odisha. She is being produced before Competent Court in Bhubaneswar.
